Notes
Individual:
[Brēderbund WFT Vol. 3, Ed. 1, Tree #4737, Date of Import: Oct 3, 2001]

Robert L. Plummer was born into a Quaker family in Warren Twp., Belmont Co, Ohio on October 8, 1823. He was the 4th of 13 children bornto John and Rachel Patterson Plummer. We don't know what the "L" standsfor, but it may be for "Ladd", his maternal grandmother's maiden name.
Robert married Charlotte Faires on October 4, 1846 at Bartlett, Wesley Twp, Washington Co, Ohio. At the time of their marriage, Robertwas living in Athens Co, and Charlotte was living just over the countyline in Washington Co. Robert was disowned by the Chesterfield MonthlyMeeting (Quaker) in 1847 for marrying contrary to discipline. Thismarked the end of our Plummer line's association with the Quakers.
In 1850, Robert and Charlotte were living in Marion Twp, Morgan Co, Ohio with their first two children, Mary and Esther. He was a shoemaker. In 1960, they were living in Lowell, Adams Twp, Washington Co. Hisoccupation then was miller. By this time, they have 5 more childrenincluding my great-grandmother, Rebecca E. (Ella or Eleanor) By 1870,they were living in Rome Twp, Athens Co. 2 more children had been born.
On January 1, 1862, Robert enlisted in Batt'y K, ist Regiment, Ohio Light Art'y. The regiment saw action in several battles includingGettysberg. He was honorably discharged at Nashville, Tenn on January16, 1865.
According to Charlotte's pension application, the family moved to the town of Jefferson, Harrison Co in 1873. Robert was killed in asawmill accident on March 17, 1878 at East Springfield, Jefferson Co. Onthe 1880 census, widow Charlotte is living in East Springfield withdaughters Addie, Debbie and Lizzie. (This Addie is Esther A, the Debbieis Rachel D, and the Lizzie is Elizabeth) By 1891, Charlotte is livingin Germano Twp, Harrison Co with daughter Debbie. These areas inJefferson and Harrison Counties, Ohio abut each other.
Charlotte died on February 4, 1902 presumably at Germano, although no death certificate can be found. Dr, W.J. O'Connell, her son-in-law,reported her death to the U.S. pension agency. Robert and Charlotte areboth buried in Germano Cemetary, Germano, Harrison Co. Their marker is alarge granite and marble monument.
About the children - what we know. Mary and Esther are recorded on the 1850 census. They were probably born in Marion Twp, Morgan Co. Later on, they are referred to as Mary A. and Esther A. I believe theEsther A is the "Addie" that was with Charlotte on the 1880 Census andwho married John H. Ferguson. Enolia Funkhouser remembers Aunt Addie. This begins the business of the women using their middle names which hasproven to cause much confusion. The next two children are Chat (Chad?)and William. Chat appears on the 1860 censu, William does not. Williamappears on the 1870 census, Chat does not. In the Talbott book, Chat isreferred to as "Ostler". No more is known of him or Mary A. WilliamHamilton Plummer married Mary Lillian McClain. He died at EastLiverpool, Ohio on April 6, 1927.
The next child is my great-grandmother. She first appears on the 1860 census as Rebecca E. It was always assumed in our family that the"E" stood for Ella. This is the name on her marriage certificate. Mymother was named Ella after her. However, the Talbott book refers to heras Eleanor. It is conceivable that Eleanor is her given name after hermaternal grandmother, Eleanor Vore. To muddy the waters further, GrandmaPorter, as we called her, referred to herself as Ellen in her later years
The next child was Charlotte E., Aunt Lottie. She married Abner Angle in 1879. Aunt Lottie died on April 10, 1933 and is buried inSebring, Ohio.
After Charlotte came Rachel D., Aunt Debbie. Again, she used her middle name Deborah, sometimes with an "h", sometimes not. Aunt Debbienever married. She was living with her sister, Elizabeth, when she diedon May 31, l936. She is buried in Damascus cemetary, Damascus, Ohio.
Elizabeth, Aunt Lizzie, came next. She married Dr. William J. O"Connell in 1883, and later Whitworth Stewart. She died in EastLiverpool, Oh on January 28, 1937 and is buried in Damascus cemetary
The last child, Frank, was born in 1869. We know nothing about him, but believe that a small gravestone next to his parents in Germano, ishis.
Charlotte, Debora and Elizabeth were all born in Washington Co, confirmed by their death certificates. Whether the others were born inWashington or Morgan counties cannot be determined. Frank may have beenborn in Athens Co.
Aunt Debbie was a teacher and may have taught at either schools for the deaf or blind in Columbus, Ohio. She was a Christian Scientest. In1892, Aunt Lizzie was living in Mingo Junction, Ohio. That year, mygrandfather, Ralph Porter, 10 years old, went to live with her and herhusband, Dr. O'Connell. Later on, in the mid-1930's, I remember visitinga home in or near Damascus. Lizzie, Lottie and Debbie were there. Idon't know if Grandma Porter was there. This must have been AuntLizzie's home.
In 1993, a William L. Plummer came to see me. He is a great grandson of William H. Plummer. He gave me a picture of a civil warsoldier who his family thinks is Robert L. Plummer.
