Individual:
REIGNED: king of Aragon (1276-85) and the king of Sicily (1282-85)

Peter III (the Great), 1239?-85 (r.1276-85), was also king of Sicily (1282-85).
He obtained from his marriage (1262) to Constance, daughter of MANFRED of
SICILY, claims to the island, which he seized in 1282. Pope Martin IV
excommunicated him and organized with the French a crusade against Catalonia,
but Peter repulsed the French invasion. He left Aragon to his eldest son,
ALFONSO III, and Sicily to his second son, James II.
