Leppard), Senator from Greenville County. --Born October 15, 1892, in
Greenville County, the son of James Franklin Leppard and Alice Adair.
Graduated from Greenville High School, Clemson College, B. S. in
Agriculture, 1919; attended law school at Furman University; admitted to
S. C. Bar, July 10, 1930. During World War I, attended Plattsburg
Training Camp May 3, 1918-September 16, 1918; commissioned second
lieutenant of infantry September 16, 1918; on duty at Cornell
University, Ithaca, N. Y., as instructor in SATC to January 3, 1919,
when discharged. Lawyer, at Greenville. Married Ella Cooley of
Greenville September 6, 1928. Chairman of state Democratic executive
committee, 1934-1938. Delegate to National Democratic Convention,
1936. S. C. House of Representatives, Greenville, 1932-1934, S. C.
Senate, Greenville, 1936-1940. Trustee of Clemson College. Member of
State Game and Fish Commission, 1935. Aide to Governor Olin D.
Johnston. Mason. Red Man. JOUAM. Member of St. Paul's Methodist
Church. Died April 6, 1957, in Greenville; buried in Greenville.
