Company D, 55th Regiment of NC Troops
"The Cleveland Farmers"
This unit was raised and enlisted in Cleveland County in early 1862. The company functioned as part of the regiment for the entirety of the war and its exploits are reported as part of the regimental history. More detailed information on each of these soldiers can be found in North Carolina Troops 1861-1865 A Roster, Volume X, Infantry, compiled by Weymouth T Jordan, Jr with Unit Histories by Louis H Manarin. All genealogists owe a debt of gratitude to these gentlemen for their wonderful tribute to our ancestors.

My notes indicate Drury, John P & Zachariah also had a brother Willis W
who served the same company. Willis died 27 July 1863 at Mt Jackson.
Thru which of Zachariah's wives do you descend, Rebecca Dobbins or Mary
Jane Walker Melton? Do you know where he is buried? I've never gotten
around to researching this particular relative. Zachariah comes into my
family thru his Mother's line, the McKinney's & I am his 1st cousin 5
times removed.
Best wishes,
Judy
