Donald's son Alexander (or Alisdair) was eventually granted title to Ross and was thus Alexander, Lord of the Isles, Earl of Ross. His son, John, was the last Lord of the Isles. John was once so powerful as to have signed a treaty with the king of England, possibly the most powerful man on earth at that time.
