What is a GEDCOM file?
GEDCOM files are files that conform to a standardized genealogy file format known as GEDCOM. For the GenCircles system to understand your data, it must be in the GEDCOM format. All major family tree software supports the creation of GEDCOM files. Creating a GEDCOM file does not overwrite your existing data or change your existing file in any way. Instead, it is an entirely new file that is generated by a process known as "exporting". Exporting a GEDCOM file is easy to do with any family tree software. Instuctions on creating a GEDCOM file appear here. You can also find more detailed instructions in your software's manual or help system. Remember where you save your GEDCOM file so when you try to upload it to our web site, you don't forget where the file is located.
