Searching for descendants of James, John and William Duncan, brothers, who settled in Dublin in or around 1774.
James Duncan was a West Indies trader (euphemism for sugar importer) and lived at 17 Eccles Street (no longer an address), John and William were freight forwarders, ship agents and had a wholesale trimmings warehouse at Pill Lane (Chancery Street nowadays).
I have been able to trace some of the descendants of James Duncan and John Duncan in Ireland and in the USA. Their lives in Dublin between 1774 and 1840 are still a mistery to me.
James, John and William Duncan were born in Strathblane, Scotland, moved (1768?)to Petersburg, VA, and left Virginia for Dublin at the onset of the War of Independance (1772?). They had four sisters: Elizabeth, Jean, Margaret and Ann; Ann (1767 -?)was married to the Rev. Archibald Craig and she gave a Prayer Book as a token of affection to James Duncan, a son of William Duncan, in 1813 when he left Ireland probably for Jamaica (he met Bolivar in Kingston in 1815).
The tree I have posted in this web site has more details. Any help will be appreciated.
