My mother was born in NY city Feb., 20, 1918- to a Frank & ____Wanio. When Frank's business went under- he put his youngest children up for adoption--his young & first wife died-as well.
My mother was adopted in NY City about age 3 by an Elfers family-German-immigrants to NY.
Her father eventually remarried and moved first to Little rock AR-where he had a small motel & than to CA- where he re-married and had another small motel and died @1983?.

His daughter re-named Marie Louise Elfers-married a Howard Irving Lewis-in the District of Columbia Feb., 1947 (Mayflower hotel).
Another of the Wanio children was never adopted and stayed in the "adoption home where she worked till she died. @1985, the only son put up for adoption was adopted by a Maxwell family.
Marie Louise (Wanio)(Elfers) Lewis is still alive and in a nursing home in Maryland.
Some of my Finnish relatives were still in Turku-in 1985.
