I'm trying to find any evidence of the sur Jancu in the current day Austria, or in the defunct Austro-Hungarian Empire, or predating it, The Holy Roman Empire.

Does anyone know if the name is or was ever in use? Does anyone know if it was in use during the days of Empire and has since morphed into some other spelling?

So far I can find no record of deceased nor living Jancu's in Austria or any of the countries that were once part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Even though all the oldsters insist that the sur name Jancu was my grandmother's maiden name and that on my father's death cert his mother's name is listed as Jancu, I am beginning to believe this spelling may be wrong.
