Joseph A. Ryan, 71, life-long resident of Rock county and a tobacco dealer in Janesville for more than 15 years, died suddenly at 9 am.m. Friday in his home, 515 North Pearl street. Although Mr. Ryan had been in failing health for the past two years, he was able to be out every day.
Joseph Ryan, son of Edward and Eliza Ryan, pioneer settlers of Rock county, was born in the town of Plymouth, May 3, 1859. He lived his entire life in Plymouth and Janesville. Thirty-four years ago Jan. 4, 1931, Mr. Ryan was married to Miss Mary Croake, Janesville, in St. Patrick's church.
He is survived by his widow; two daughters, Mary Cecile and Catherine Elizabeth (Betty) Ryan; one sister, Mrs. Daniel Ryan, Janesville; and three brothers, Edward H. Ryan, Frank Ryan, and Ambrose Ryan, all of Janesville.
Mr. Ryan was devoted to his home and family and will be remembered for integrity in business and social contacts.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a. m. Monday in St. Patrick's church. Burial will be in Mr. Olivet cemetery.
