Specifically I am seeking the husband of Sophia Gates of Rutland Co [1850 Census]. She is likely the mother of Jacob and Gardner Gates. Gardener and his wife, Martha, were living next door to Sophia; Jacob and his wife, Susan were living with Sophia. In 1860 Sophia and Gardener were living in the household of Elizabeth Dryer. Jacob and Susan had moved on to Port Huron Michigan.
The 1870 Census shows Sophia living as a boarder in the household of Amos and Isabella Gates in the Ira community.
The 1880 Census shows Gardener living in ghe John and Lucy Brewster household. Sophia is no longer in the Amos Gates household and may have died by then; she would have been 78 yrs old by that time.
