Seeking contact with ancestors of Joseph BRADFORD (circa 1785 - betw.1835-43) who m.1 circa 1806 to Susannah WASHER and m.2 1816 to Percis/Persis DARRAH (1797-1862) of Dunham, Missisquoi, Eastern Townships, Quebec, Canada.
There is unsubstantiated rumor of a third marriage to a Hannah EASTMAN. This may also be the maiden name of Susannah WASHER or possibly simple error and misunderstanding.
Joseph and Percis BRADFORD lived and farmed in Berkshire, Franklin Co., VT. Whereabouts of the 5 children from Joseph's first marriage are unknown. Upon Joseph's untimely death in a tree-fall accident, the 11 children of his and Percis' were either old enough to live independently or taken-in as "servants" upon low bid of families in the primative welfare system of the time.
Several sons of Joseph and Percis relocated to pioneer Plymouth, Sheboygan Co., WI and served in various units of Wisconsin Volunteers. All survived the war.
Joseph BRADFORD's father was said to be John and John BRADFORD's father reportedly was Asa. Land records in Berkshire from the first decade of the 19th Century name an Asa BRADFORD. Asa is held to be a descendant of Governor William BRADFORD of the Mayflower and Plymouth Rock fame. Descendants of Joseph BRADFORD have undergone DNA testing in an effort to prove this lineage.
