Researching the Nichols/Bryce families in and around Upshur County, TX.
Some of my kin:
My Gr-Gr-Grandparents Edward Henry (Bud) Nichols m. Sarah Jane Bryce (m. September 30, 1877 in Upshur Co., TX)
Their Children: 1. Sarah Frances m. ? 2. Martha Parilee m. Bishop Pierce Rhodes 2. James Edward m. Emma L. Allen 4. William Arthur m. Hattie Kizzie Boyd 5. Virgil A. m. Lucille Whitter 6. Henry Lee m. Ira ?
I dont' believe Sarah Frances Nichols is Sarah Jane Bryce's daughter. She is most likely a child from a previous marriage or "otherwise" of Edward Henry. I have learned from a great-aunt that Sarah Frances was called "Aunt Sally" and was the source of some turmoil in my great-aunt's family as some of her siblings liked "Aunt Sally" while their mother did not and practically disowned her.
I do have one picture of this family with Henry Lee still being about toddler age. Sarah Frances Nichols is not in this portrait.
(Parents of Sarah Jane Bryce) James Bryce = Gr-Gr-Gr-Grandfather Martha Ann Dyer = Gr-Gr-Gr-Grandmother
I have other bits and pieces of information on this family and some of Edward Henry/Sarah Jane's grand-children. I am curious if ANYone out there might have a connection to this group.
The Nichols ancestry has me baffled, as this group came from GA and I have yet to find any records to give me parentage for Edward Henry Nichols.
I noticed two other Nichols individuals in the Upshur Co. area, one particular being Malviny Nichols who married a Mr. Knight. The Knights and Bryces are well intermarried at that time and I am hoping that this woman may prove to be at least a sister to my Edward Henry. We shall see.
I look forward to meeting any Nichols cousins that might be out there searching, too.
P.S. From what I can tell Lillie Augusta Bryce, as mentioned in Rae Bobo's posting on this board, is a niece of my Gr-Gr-Grandmother, Sarah Jane Bryce. Lillie's parents were James Turner Bryce and Julie Ann Burnett.
