According to his obituary from the Pittsburgh Gazette, he was born at York on 27 December 1823 and learned the trade of ropemaking. The J. in his middle name could stand for John, though I'm not sure.
He moved to Allegheny County at age 24 (which would be around 1848), married Caroline Huey around 1849 or 1850, and had about 8 children (8 are listed in a biography, but only five are listed in his obituary).
The KNOWN children are William Henry (born 9 July 1850) Emma (Mrs. William McClurg) b. 1854, Elizabeth (Mrs. John Farley), born abt. 1857), Catherine (Mrs. John Hallstein), born September 1859, and Mary Ann (Mrs. George Wasson), born 17 March 1863. Other children listed are Charles, Alice or Ella, and John, though I don't have definites on these three.
Jacob was also an alderman and a constable for the city and county of Allegheny and fought in the Civil War for the GAR. He died at his daughter Emma's home in Homewood, Beaver County, Pennsylvania on 23 February 1899 and was buried in Highwood Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
I am looking for any relations in York or Allegheny County. Thanks for any help any of you can give me!
