My paternal grandmother was Mary Sirgey, born in Frenchville, PA in 1878 to Frank and Melinie. Frank's father and mother were Louis and Frances.

I don't know when they crossed the ocean...but the 1850 US Census shows a family of Lergeys and a family of Leigeys (to me the names look the same...but who knows about census takers?) who must have crossed between the 1831 birth of Josephine in France and the 1833 appearance of John in Pennsylvania. The 1860 Census reflects 16--all Leigeys this time--including many of the originals and a new batch (my Leigey/Sirgey kin) including Louis and Francis (Frank). I'm stuck at the point of finding parents for Louis, determining what the original French name really was and pinpointing the Leigey/Sirgey transition (which may be unique to my line only) and MAYBE you can help.
