The memorial service for Maurice Herbert McDowell will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Glendale Baptist Church. Pastors Steve Peters and Walt V. Kelley will officiate. The graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. McDowell, 81, of Glendale, died Friday (July 5, 2002) at his home.

He was born Jan. 26, 1921, in Royal, Ark., to Elva May and Ambrose McDowell. On Aug. 25, 1942, in Meyers, Ark., he married Audine Tallent, who survives. They moved to Glendale in 1947 from Hot Springs, Ark.
Mr. McDowell worked for Robert Dollar Lumber Mill and then went to work for Gregory Lumber Mill. He retired in 1983.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Nicholson and the USS Edwards.
Mr. McDowell was a member of Glendale Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed horses and automobiles.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Robert, Gig Harbor, Wash., and Philip and Stephen, both Glendale; two daughters, Deborah Clark, Klamath Falls, and Martha Kelley, Lakewood, Wash.; a brother, Calvin, Sutherlin; a sister, Wynena Parrish, Apple Valley, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Ralph.
Friends may pay their respects from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.
