The memorial service for Richard Gordon Schafer will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mr. Schafer, 81, of Medford, died Wednesday (July 3, 2002) at his home.

He was born Nov. 15, 1920, in Portland, to Louis and Violet Schafer. A lifelong Rogue Valley resident, he attended Table Rock Elementary School and graduated from Medford High School. On March 28, 1948, in Medford, he married Alice Rastetter, who survives.
Mr. Schafer owned and operated Schafer Electric at 142 N. Front St. in Medford.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy with the Submarine Services on the USS Pompom, SS-267, in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
Mr. Schafer enjoyed swimming and flying.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Dixie Taylor, Eagle Point, and Dona Montgomery, Jacksonville; two sisters; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Keith.
