A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2002, in St. Helens Elks Lodge for Leland L. "Lee" Pennell, who died June 23 at age 94.

Mr. Pennell was born Sept. 18, 1907, in Salem. He graduated from Shedd High School and Oregon State Agricultural College. In about 1934, he moved to St. Helens, where he owned a service station and heating oil distributorship before retiring to Mesa, Ariz., in 1978. He moved to Tigard in 1993. In 1936, he married Florence Getchell; she died in 1999.

Survivors include his son, Bill; and two grandchildren.
