WALTERS, Okla. - Melvin E. "Sonny" Dorton, 79, of Walters died Wednesday, May 11, 2005, in Lawton, Okla.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel, Walters, with Dean Lusby officiating. Burial will be in Walters Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home.

Mr. Dorton was retired from civil service work.

Survivors include son, Jerry Allen Pierce of Lavon, Texas; two daughters, Vicky Jean Dorton of Hot Springs, Ark., and Carolyn Woods of Wichita, Kan.; three brothers, J.W. Dorton of Devol, Okla., Jimmy Dorton of Burkburnett, and Charles Dorton of Perryton, Texas; two sisters, Betty Jane Higgerson of Lawton, Okla., and Dorothy Jene Briscoe of Walters, Okla.; two step-sons, Phillip White of Walters and Jeff White of Tucson, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren.
