If you live in or near Crawford County, Ohio and love a good mystery....I really need some help.My gggrandparents, Lucinda & Henry Earl moved to Todd Township, Crawford, Ohio in 1841 with one child Catherine born in 1840. In the 1850 Census there are 4 more children who were born in Todd, Clarinda 1842, Amanda 1845, Mary 1847 and Gibson 1848.In the 1860 Census Catherine Earl is no longer at home but my search has not turned up a marriage for her. Also, Gibson Earl who would be 12 years old is no longer with the family and does not appear again. I know he lived to be in his late 70's because my mother remembered him and she wasn't born until 1915. The 1860 census also added 3 more chldren: William G 1849, Harriet E 1854, and James Elmer Earl 1857 (my greatgrandfather)The 1870 Census still shows the EARL family living and farming in Todd, Crawford County, Ohio with 2 more children added: John 1861 and Lemuel J 1863.......a total of 10 children. Clarinda Earl m. John Krichbaum in Crawford County, then moved to Wyandot County and had her brother John E. living with them in 1900 Census. Amanda Earl m. George Hopp and moved to Indiana (family knowledge...I have not found her there anywhere) All of the above info is well documented up to 1870. Then they ALL disappear.......where did they go? James Elmer and his brother Lemuel went to Arkansas and married GUNTER sisters, GeorgiaAnn and Theodosia. James Elmer and GeorgiaAnn Earl moved to Louisiana when their only son Charley married Jennie Mitchell (my grandparents) In the 1880 Census not ONE of this family is in Crawford County or the state of OHIO. We can now do a Global search and they are not anywhere after 1870. It is understandable if the girls married and changed their names and are more difficult to find. My grandmother was usually very diligent to record births and deaths in her Bible. The births are there but not their deaths. My mother remembered all of them being from Ohio, their red hair, and their stories of Todd, Sulphur Springs, Bucurus and Upper Sandusky. Is there anyone there who would like to help me solve the mystery of "what happened to the EARL family of Crawford County, Ohio"????? Henry Earl was also a Sgt.in the Union Army during the Civil War.
