I am starting a search in the dark with no leads... perhaps somebody can lend me a candle and point me in the right direction.
I am searching for descendants of a PHILIP LAMOREUX who is said to have been born in Montréal on January 5, 1879. Philip emigrated to the US sometime around 1890, settling in Cohoes, New York (Cohoes is located in Albany County 8 miles N of Albany along Highway 4 on the banks of the Hudson River near Troy). Around this time he married a CHARLOTTE BENNETT and in 1892 he had his only child, a daughter HELEN LAMOREUX.
Philip is said to have been a salesman when he arrived in the US and then owned/operated a restaurant or bar. He eventually became Sheriff of Cohoes. Philip died of Parkinson's Disease on October 6, 1939 in Glens Falls, New York, survived by wife and daughter.
Other details which may be helpful:
Charlotte Bennett Lamoreux, lifespan January 6, 1874 to February 7, 1958, went completely blind at age 23.
Philip was Roman Catholic. Charlotte was Protestant but converted to Catholicism after marrying Philip.
Philip's daughter Helen married Frank Dubée in 1911, Troy, New York and had four daughters.
Philip is buried in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, West Glens Falls, New York.
I am told that Philip had brothers, possibly sisters, but I have no information as to any of his descendants other than Helen. I am further unaware of Charlotte's relatives, as there is no recorded information about the Bennett family. I do know that Charlotte's parents were killed when she was young and that she was raised by relatives thereafter.
Any help, suggestions or leads in seeking descendants of Philip's siblings would be most appreciated. This is something of great personal importance to me and I recognize it as a daunting goal, given the magnitude of Lamoreux descendants and the wide field of those from Québec.
