I am seeking information about two families that emigrated to the US from Hessen, Germany in the mid-1800's.
1)Andreas LEHRBACH and his wife Anna Maria (NAUTH?) arrived in Buffalo NY in the 1840's. Three of their 5 children were born there (Rosa, 1846; Nicholas, 1847; Andrew, 1853). By 1854, the family had moved to Trempealeau WI, where they operated a hotel. They then moved to Red Wing, MN.
2) Frederick W. BELTZ also arrived in Buffalo at about the same time (1847-1850), possibly with his mother (Margaret?) and some siblings. His family may have owned property in Buffalo. He married Wilhelmina Shaenborn there in 1850; two of their 7 children were born in Buffalo (Amelia, 1853; and Frederick A., 1858). The Beltz family then moved to Ohio (abt. 1860), to Trempealeau WI (abt. 1867), and eventually to South Dakota and/or Minnesota. Andrew Lehrbach married Amelia Beltz in Trempealeau in 1874--they were my g-g-grandparents.
The two families crossed paths several times, but those of us investigating them have been unable to document their lives in Buffalo. Anyone who recognizes these surnames and has additional information or could otherwise help would be a treasure to us.
