Searchin for Cox in MO

My great-great grandfather, Sylraner Rayburn Cox was born September 27, 1804 in Madison Co., KY according to family information. I have no actual proof of this, and cannot find him until he married his first wife, Susannah Davis Harris on June 15, 1838 in Morgan Co., MO. He is in the 1840 census, but don't find him again until the 1850 and 1860 census of Andrew Co., MO. Anyone with any more information would be greatly appreciated!!
