I am looking for info and confirmation of the birth of Robert Edward Lawrence (Goff)
The info that I have was that he was born on 26 April 1875 in Crab Orchard Rockcastle County KY I don't have any parents names. He had 2 half brothers (I don't know if they were older of younger) named Gropher Lawrence and possibly Jim Lawrence) there was also a sister but I don't have a name. They all shared the same mother.
Family folklore says that when Robert was about 12 to 14 years old (making this about 1887 - 1889) he was convicted of killing someone in a family fued. He was sent to prision and about a year later, he escaped and went to Indian Territory and changed his name from Robert E. Lawrence to Robert E. Goff.
I have no idea why he picked the name Goff.
I would like to find anything at all that could verify anypart of this story.
