My great-grandmother, Susan Henderson, was born as a slave in 1857 in Tennessee or Kentucky. She lived to be 105 years old, dying in 1962.

I believe her maiden name was Dixon and that she may or may not have been a descendant of former Illinois Senator Alan Dixon. She married Ballard C. Henderson, who was born in 1829 in South Carolina and died in 1929 in Cairo, Illinois.
