Do you have any other spellings of Carrie's surname. Sturm has at times mutated to Sterm (by simple phonetic guessing). Others have translated Sturm to Storm (mostly by English speaking neighbors who appear to have been expressing their language ability). Really just curious to know if this spelling was and persisted as a stable possible variant of Sturm since the other associated names have a suspiciously German similarity.

Is the Vinton mentioned here a county in Iowa? There is a similar county name Vinton in Ohio that seems to have been a temporary point for many migrating from WV to Iowa during the claiming of lands in Iowa (often by 1812 military payment, or so it appears).
