I have some information I believe connects to Joseph and Clarissa (Towner) Osborn, although I can't say I have absolute proof yet. Maybe together we will crack this.
First, a correction to "Families of Ancient New Haven" by Donald Lines Jacobus -- Jacobus on page 1333 confused the families of two different Joseph Osborns. Joseph Osborn who married Rebecca Towner had a son Isaac Wildman Osborn. Another Joseph Osborn married *Eunice* Towner and lived at Lanesborough in MA -- some of this Joseph Osborn's children were "given" to the first Joseph Osborn by Jacobus on page 1333 of his book.
I have found a deed in Southbury, CT made in 1823 by Joseph Osborn of Otsego, Otsego Co., NY to Isaac W. Osborn of the same place, selling land in Southbury that is specifically mentioned as being inherited from his *aunt* Sarah Matthews(Southbury, CT deed book 6, page 451). Sarah is sister of Rebecca (Towner) Osborn, so it would seem that this Joseph Osborn and Isaac W. Osborn were brothers. I found that Isaac W. Osborn lived in Mt. Washington, Berkshire Co., MA before moving to NY. Looking through the deeds there, I found a Joseph Osborn also a resident of Mt. Washington at the time (1805) who makes a deed and has a wife Clarissa(Berkshire Co., MA southern district deed book 43, page 145). I believe (but currently lack proof) that this is Isaac W. Osborn's brother and also your Joseph Osborn who was married to Clarissa Towner.
The short story is that I believe that your Joseph Osborn is a son of Joseph and Rebecca (Towner) Osborn.
Perhaps you could let me know more about Rev. Joseph Osborn to see if we can prove he was in Otsego Co., NY in 1823 as that I believe would be sufficient to show that he is brother of Isaac W. Osborn.
