Mystery surrounds the marriage, life, and death of William and Catherine. My grandmother Queenie always blamed her father (William) for the death of her mother Catherine, stating that he "worked her to death" at such a young age.
Catherine died at the age of 39, when my grandmother was only 10 years old. William was 65 then, 26 years older than his young wife. Other researchers have emailed me stating that William had been beleived dead by then and were quite surprised to find that he lived, married, and had children. Apparently there was a newspaper article in which several of his family members were interviewed for one purpose or another and had stated that William was deceased. This led us to beleive that he had been "disowned". Possibly because he married such a young bride. Possible because his bride was also part indian. People threw quite a fuss about such things back then.
Our family bible has a brief family history scribbled in it from Allen Wheeler, brother to my grandmother, son to William. All information matches that of the "William A. Wheeler" who had been beleived dead. Same birth date, same birth location, same parent's names, and same siblings names.
Little is known about Catherine's side of the family. Or where the name "McCall" comes from. Seems like an odd middle name for a girl. The exact spelling of her parent's names are unknown, but my grandmother had stated that she thought her grandfather's name was "Aliacan" and her grandmother's maiden name was something to the effect of "Johones". Catherine Johones was beleived to be a Mohawk indian or a "half breed".
