Washburns in Jamestown New York

Hello cousins. Anyone know anything about the Washburns of Jamestown, NY. My grandfather William Merritt Washburn was born just before the Civil War. I believe my great grandfather was named Ernest Washburn and fought in the 9th New York Cavalry in the Civil War. Ideally, I am trying to figure out if they came to Jamestown, NY from elsewhere in NY, Philadelphia, Connecticut or Massachusetts.
