I would like to establish a proven link between Matthew Wilkie (b 1770 MA, d 1860 NY) and his children. Matthew was the son of Elizabeth5 Standish (1737-after 1805; Miles4, Isreal3, Josiah2, Myles1) and John Wilkie (as per Five Generations Project, vol. 14).
I have compiled census information and have the following possibilities for children:
1. Frank Wilkie (name came from obituary of Olive Wilkie Cullen - no other information other than alive in 1895). 2. George Wilkie (b.c. 1794 NY, d. aft. 1880 -- probably NY). Matthew and Phoebe lived with George in 1850. Spouse: Sallie (c.1800 NY). 3. Olive Wilkie (1804 NY - 1895 WI). Spouse: John Cullen (1811 Ireland - 1872 WI) 4. Miles S. Wilkie (c.1807 NY - aft. 1880) Spouses: Lovarma; Mary A.; Abigail. I think he might have moved to Canada for awhile. 5. Roxy Wilkie (1809 NY - 1886 IL). Spouse: Joseph D. Newman (1810 NY - 1898 IL). 6. Calvin Wilkie (c.1812 NY aft. 1880). Spouse: Sarah C. Graham (c. 1814 CT - aft. 1880). Lived in DeKalb Co., IL -- did he move on to IA? 7. Almira Wilkie (c.1816 NY - aft. 1895). Spouse: Albert H. Davis (c.1815 NY - bef. 1860 NY). Olive Wilkie Cullen's obit said her sister, Mrs. Davis, was living in Indiana in 1895.
I would like to find obituaries, death certificates, etc. for the above named children to see if we can establish, if not proof, a preponderance of evidence.
Matthew Wilkie was a Baptist minister and one of the first settlers of Jefferson Co., NY. His brother, John Wilkie (bpt. 1769 MA) was also in the area and had a family, but was not a Baptist minister. My grandfather always said that his grandmother, Olive Wilkie Cullen (with whom he lived until he was 12) was the daughter of a Baptist minister and a descendant of Myles Standish.
