I am searching for the family of Emily “Emma” Smyth/Smith. She was very likely born in London, England in 1866 and married James Johnson on June 13, 1886 in Mullingar, Ireland. She was either Protestant or the daughter of a wealthy Jewish jeweller in London, England whose family disowned her for marrying an Irishman whom she met on a trip to Ireland. She lived in Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow, Ireland with her husband who was in the military and had Robert James (10/03/1887), Edward Patrick (16/01/1890), Gregory Lennon (16/05/1895) all born in Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow, Ireland and Emily born in 1899 in London, England. She died on March 11, 1901 in a hospital in St. John’s Wood in London, England of “tuberculosis”. At the time of her death, she lived in an apartment in a nice house in a predominately Jewish neighbourhood in London and worked as a seamstress. Her children had been sent to live with her mother-in-law in Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow, Ireland. Robert James and Edward Patrick left Ireland to seek their fortunes in Canada. We have no idea what happened to Gregory Lennon and Emily, a sickly child all her life died in 1914 and is buried in Banbridge Co. Down, Northern Ireland. I have two possible photos of Emily Smyth Johnson that I would gladly share in the hopes of finding her family roots.
Many thanks for your time and good luck with your own genealogical research!
