The information on our great grandfather JOHN F SMITH has been very elusive. He fought for the Confederacy after enlisting at White's Bridge, Marion, SC in 1861. He moved to Dallas, TX with his sister or cousin MARGARET CATHERINE SMITH after the war. His father and uncle owned a grocery, mercantile or Indian Trade center probably in northwest GA. His mother was full blood Cherokee. Believe the parents went into hiding in 1838 during the Trail of Tears relocation to OK. Other than his later life after marrying FANNY JANE HATFIELD and MARGARET CATHERINE marrying EPHRIAM HATFIELD, we know nothing. Would love to know the names of our great great grandparents. No records found in the Indian Rolls---Dawes, Miller, etc. Any help will be deeply appreciated. Have been searching for this info for over 25 years. Thank you.
