I am seeking information on my Great-grandfather, Edward Rogers, who was a Riverboat Minstrel and published Songwriter, working on the "Cotton Blossom" paddle-steamer, before migrating to Australia on the White Star Line in approx. 1883/85. Although no marriage certificate registration has been found, Edward Rogers had two sons (my Grandfather, Edwin "Soldier" Rogers - a Golden Gloves champion boxer who was subsequently killed in the ring aged 23 and his younger brother Percy Rogers - with my Grandmother, Maude Campion, before returning to the U.S.A. leaving her to raise their two sons by taking in ironing and washing. The two sons sold newspapers to help their mother. Edwin Rogers and Maude Campion had a daughter, Annie Maude Rogers DOB: 29 July 1909 (my mother). My mother was 15 mths old when Edwin Rogers died of a brain haemorhage at the hospital gates after the fight. My mother was 6 yrs old when Maude Rogers died. Orphaned, she was raised by her Grandfather Campion, until at age 18 she married Arthur "Gordon" Chadwick Doake DOB: 26 September 1907. My email is: screenwriterink@optusnet.com.au
