James Raven was born in 1801 to James and Maria Raven and married Anne Diver in 1825.
John Luke Raven was born in 1830 to James and Anne [Diver] Raven in Darsham, Suffolk and died in 1923, at the age of 93, in Wrentham, Suffolk where he is buried. John Raven was listed as a “Woodman” in the 1881 (age 51) and 1901 (age 71) British Census and as a “Wood Merchant” at his burial.
John Raven married Elizabeth Jackson in Wrentham on March 30th, 1861.
Elizabeth [Jackson] Raven was born in 1834 in Bitteswell, Leicester and died in 1925, at the age of 93 in Wrentham, Suffolk.
John and Elizabeth lived in Wrentham on “Back Street” (as noted in 1881 and 1901 Census).
John and Elizabeth Raven had a total of seven children, including five boys and two girls, as follows; 1. John George Raven 2. Jessie Raven 3. Harry Raven 4. Arthur Raven 5. Millicent Jane Raven 6. Walter Raven 7. Charles Raven
Of the original family of seven, four are buried in the same cemetery in Wrentham.
John George Raven, the first son of John and Elizabeth, was born in 1862 in Wrentham, Suffolk. He was listed as a Carpenter in the 1881 Census at the age of 19. In the British Census of 1901 (age 39), John was listed as a “Carpenter & Joiner” in Middlesex.
Jessie Raven, the first daughter of John and Elizabeth, was born in 1864 in Wrentham, Suffolk, and died in 1930, at the age of 66, in Wrentham Suffolk. She worked as a dressmaker.
Harry Raven, the second son of John and Elizabeth, was born in 1866 in Wrentham, Suffolk, and died in 1927, at the age of 62, in Wrentham Suffolk. In his burial records he is listed as a Retired Hurdle Maker.
Arthur Raven, the third son of John and Elizabeth, was born in 1869 in Wrentham, Suffolk. In the British Census of 1891 (age 22), Arthur was listed as a “Drapers Asst” in Brighton. In the British Census of 1901 (age 31), Arthur was listed as a “Draper” in Essex. Arthur married Mrs. Elise Froyke in Chicago in 1906 after immigrating to the United States.
Millicent Jane Raven, the second daughter of John and Elizabeth, was born in 1872 in Wrentham, Suffolk, and died in 1947, at the age of 75, in Wrentham Suffolk. She was listed as a Spinster at her burial.
Walter Raven, the fourth son of John and Elizabeth, was born in 1874 in Wrentham, Suffolk. In 1901 (age 27), Walter was listed in the British Census as a “Tram Car Builder” living in Lancanshire. Walter emigrated to Canada (1909) at the age of 35 and mortgaged his property to his father in order to pay his passage.
In Canada, Walter married Rose Emma Newman. Walter and Rose had one son; Walter Ralph Raven, my grandfather, born in 1915.
