I have traced my Hobson family back to Morland Parish, Westmorland in the mid-17th C. A couple of sources (eg; some IGI 'extracts' - as opposed to 'submissions'- as well as the Church of England CCED site both, in some cases) occasionally use Hobson and Hebson interchangeably in Morland.
We know that 'o' and 'e' can very often be read the one for the other during the above period. Can anyone help me...are we dealing with demonstrably different names, or are they largely interchangeable?
It is interesting that, as far as Westmorland is concerned, Morland, of all the Westmorland parishes, has by far the greatest number of both the above forms.
