John Wesley Hill was born abt.1841 in Hogsett, Mason Co., VA (now WV). His mother was Nancy Patterson and unproven Henry Hill. There was a marriage record for Henry and Nancy in Mason Co.dated 5 June 1831. We know nothing more on Henry Hill other than he was dead before 1850.
The Hill family of Mason Co. seems to have come from NY, and arrived there via the river. John had two sisters, Mary Frances and Syntha Ann Hill.
Nancy Patterson Hill married John Alexander Persinger on 24 Feb 1847 in Gallia Co., OH. In the 1860 VA census, John and Syntha were listed in the household of Nancy and Alexander Persinger.
John married Mahala Cornell on 10 May 1866 in Lawrence Co., OH. They had twelve children:James M., George W., Sarah Frances, Gideon, Charles William, Hebard, James Henry, Leander, Effie Jane, John Austin, Leo, and Fred. John died in Gallia Co., OH 19 April 1919 and is buried at Zion Church, WV
