Barbara Harris Poole
LOVINGTON — Services for Barbara Harris Poole, 76, of Lovington will be held at 9:30 a.m. today, May 1, at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lovington. The Rev. Mack McCarthick will officiate. Burial will be at at 1 p.m. at South Park Cemetery in Roswell.


She was born Oct. 11, 1924, in Dexter and passed away April 28, 2001, at Lovington Good Samaritan Care Center. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lovington and was formerly a member of Highland Baptist Church of Roswell for many years.


Mrs. Poole worked as a nurse for more than 25 years, about half of which was spent working in doctor’s offices and hospitals, the remainder of her career was spent working for the New Mexico Public Health Department in Roswell.


Survivors include two sons and daughters in law, Thomas M. and Carol Poole of Lakewood, Colo.; and Robert S. and Karen Poole of Golden, Colo.; three daughters and sons in law, Carrie and John Wilbanks of Lovington, Sue and Greg Hawkins of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Barbara and Robert Mabry of Roswell; one sister, Alda Horn of Alvarado, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by two sisters, Inez Payne and Geraldine Mooney; one brother, Marlin Harris; and her parents, Sandy J. and Lucille Leatherwood Harris.


Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice in Hobbs or to the Barbara Harris Poole Endowment Nursing Scholarship Fund at Altrusa Club of Roswell, New Mexico Foundation, P.O. Box 413, Roswell, NM 88202-0413.


Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.
