Researching the above in NW England - my research to date is confined to Cumbria (previously the counties of Cumberland & Westmorland & Furness district of Lancashire) & I have managed to trace back as far as about 1800. My branch of the family appear to have their roots in & around Kendal & from there spread to the many villages in the former Westmorland.
I would be pleased to hear from anyone with information relating to my research.
