I am descended from John Rooks Gross, too. His son, Winfield S. Gross, was my great-grandfather. Winfield's son, Pearl Dustin Gross, was my grandfather, and Pearl's daughter, Louise, was my mother. I live in Portland, Oregon, and I have been researching my family lines for several years. It is always nice to meet a new cousin.
John Rooks Gross's dad was Robert Oliver Gross, married to Edith Wood Gray. I have information back to Simon Gross of Boston, Massachusetts, 1652, but there is some argument recently whether Simon was the grandson of Isaac Gross of Suffulk, England, and thus a descendant of Sir William Le Gros, 1250, of Kent, England. The story in my family is that our Gross ancestors can be traced back to the time of William the Conqueror. When I find the time, I hope to research that link.
I found a lot of my information through the LDS Church website, and I understand their information is not always accurate. I think it is a place to start, and I have been able to find other information on the Web. I don't have the time to travel around the country researching in libraries, although I sure would like to do that!
I hope to hear back from you. I am happy to share information.
