Ann Green was the widow of James Green, a merchant. In the early 1840s they were living in Leigh, Kent, where their twin children, Walter James and Martha Ann, were born. By 1871 she was living at Union Place in London. Her 7 year old granddaughter Ada Culling was living with her.
Her son Walter was probably married by this time, as his children Louisa, Katherine and Philip were mainly born in the 1860s and 1870s. The eldest were born at Clapham but Walter and his family later lived in Croydon.
Martha Green's second husband was William Henry Giesen, a ship owner, whom she married in 1865. William died in 1875 and when Martha herself died of cancer in 1893, she was living with Walter and his children in Croydon.
