Hi! I'm Mari Gallion of Eagle River, Alaska (born 1969). I'm a feminist self-help author and the mother of a five year-old boy, Oberon Gallion, born November 1998. My father's name is Jackie Gallion, and he's originally from Haiti, Missouri, born in 1939 to Sherman and Bonnie Gallion. My sister, Irene Gallion, is a police dispatcher and a pilot in Anchorage, AK.
I have a question about our surname: Is it Irish or French? I've heard stories of a group of women coming over from Northern Ireland during the potato famine, selling the "last of what they had" (if you know what I mean) to get on boats to take them to America after their husbands were killed by their landlords in the Gallion Braes. Does anyone know if this is true? Is there any connection with the Gallion surname and gallion's Reach in North London?
