Hi there, I am looking for any information regarding the following FRIENDs: ~~~~~~~~~~ John FRIEND who married Mary Ann COLLINS on Jul.27.1854, recorded in Upshur Co. West Virginia. We have no birth or death dates/places for this couple. ~~~~~~~~~~ However: The above John FRIEND is thought to be the son of Israel A. FRIEND who married Lucinda GORDAN in Nicholas Co. WV on May.27.1829. (Israel A. FRIEND being the s/o Andrew Pendleton Friend) The above Mary Ann COLLINS is thought to be the d/o Lewis COLLINS who married Sarah "Sally" BAIL in Nicholas Co. on Jan.04. 1830. Would sure appreciate it if anyone can add anything that would support these thoughts. ~~~~~~~~~~ Also: I have been told that John and Mary Ann (Collins) FRIEND do not appear in the 1860 census for Upshur Co., but two FRIEND children are listed that year in the household of a Lewis Collins. These children are Sarah L. FRIEND, age 5 and Lewis FRIEND, age 4. We suspect they may be the orphaned children of John and Mary Ann (Collins) FRIEND, then being raised by either Mary's brother or father. (I was not told the age of this Lewis Collins or who was listed as his wife). We suspect that this "Sarah L." may have been named for her grandmothers: Sarah and Lucinda and that this Lewis was named for at least one of his grandfathers. ~~~~~~~~~~ I have been told that the only FRIEND who appears in the Upshur Co. WV 1870 census is "Sarah Friend, age 15", but I was not told in whose household she was listed. We do suspect that this is our "Sarah L. Friend" once again because of her age, but have no idea as to what may have become of young Lewis Friend (who would have been 14) at this point. ~~~~~~~~~~ We do know that Sarah L. FRIEND (b: Jan.1856 d: Nov.1928) married Elisha D.Davidson on Oct.29.1876 in Upshur Co. and had 9 children: (1) Ida M. b: 1877 (2) Howard Burton b:1880? (3) Mildred Victoria b: 1882 (4) Richard Henry b: 1884 (5) Ola Jackson b: 1887 (6) John Ira b:1889 (7) Harvey Lewis b: 1892(8) Guy George b: 1894 (9) Minter Clyde b: 1896 ~~~~~~~~~~ I would appreciate any additional information on any of these folks.
Bye for now, Kathleen Fitzgerald gmak@in-touch.net
