I have Cochran as a major surname, and I am hoping to correspond with others in this line. I am related by way of my dad's maternal side. James Cochran and members of his family began homesteading in 1820 in Tippecanoe Co., IND. with one son going from Ross Co., Ohio the previous year to enter a land claim. Son, Hugh Cochran and his wife, Maria (Stockton) Cochran and others set up housekeeping then. In about 1835, Hugh took his family into MO., Clay Co. They removed Clay Co. in 1849 to live in Caldwell Co. One of their sons born in Clay 1846, William B. Cochran, later became my g-grandfather. He was in Civil War service, lived in Greene Co., MO. beginning 1864, married Martha Hollingsworth, and had two children. He was ordained a minister of the gospel in 1873 and moved over into Lawrence Co., MO. 1874. William B. helped to found several of the Disciples of Christ churches in Lawrence Co. also was elected a state representative from Lawrence Co. 1880 and from Daded Co., MO. 1900. His first wife died in 1889 , and he remarried to Emma E. Harper. They had five children; one daughter, Blanche, became my grandmother.
