My family has a slight twist to it. My grandfather, Noverta Clayton, was convicted in 1928, of murdering his first wife, Hinton Vandiver, in Mississippi. He escaped out of prison, changed his surname to Adams, and, he met and married, my grandmother, Virginia Snell, and, became a sheriff somewhere in Colorado. They had 5 sons together, one being my father, John Robert Adams, now deceased 10 years. The Clayton name ends with my grandfather, as his son's are Adams.
