He was arrested by the Union Army in the Spring of 1865 in Virginia; they destroyed his mill and took him to Chicago. He was in Louisiana, MO in the Fall/Winter of 1865/1866 and later went to Fort Worth, Texas. He died about 1880-1900 at Bowie, Texas. Sam is my great-great grandfather through his daughter, Nancy Alloway Carter Knox, one of two children by his first wife, Jane Alloway Woolfork. Sam sired a son, Amon G. Carter, by a woman at Crafton, in Wise County, Texas. He married a third woman and had two or three children at Bowie and/or Nocona, Texas.
