Looking for information about the parents of Joseph Butler. He married Elizabeth Jane Burns (The widow of George Washington Flatt) on Nov 9, 1876. They are listed on the 1880 census in Van Zandt County,Texas.

He was born in Missouri. His father (possibly named John?) was born in Ilinois and his mother was born in Missouri. Joseph is believed to have had at least two siblings, George and Mary.

His son (my grandfather) was James Howard Butler, born about 1872 in Texas. James Howard Butler spoke fluent Choctaw and claimed to have been raised by Choctaw family members (no one remembers their names) in Indian Territory after his parents died when he was a young child.
