I'm interested in anything about Bartlett Brown Jr.'s sons: William, John, and James who migrated early from SC to GA and little seems to be known about them. My great-grandfather's brother was named Abel Bartlet; first name from his material grandfather, middle from the other side? So I hope there is a connection.
The earliest ancestor we can find is John W. Brown b. 1816 in GA. He married Elizabeth Funderburk from Warren Co., GA abt 1840. A clue for this family connection is the reoccuring name of Bartlett, but also that my g-gf said his father (John) was born in SC on the 1880 census. John claimed he was born in GA so it is probable that my g-gf had heard about SC and was confused. John, himself, said in the 1880 census that his parents were born in GA also. Very confusing. This may all be wishful thinking, but I'd appreciate any ideas.
Children of John W. Brown (1816-aft 1880) and Elizabeth Funderburk (1820-aft 1880) are: Abel Bartlett Brown (1841-1925); His siblings were: Cornelia Dorcus (1892-?), Enoch Franklin ,my g-grandfather (1845-1934), George Henry (1847-?), Issac Jefferson (1849-1928), Mary Margaret, William B.
First four children were born in Americus, Sumter Co., GA; Family is picked up on census in 1840 in Marion Co., GA; 1850 in Pike Co., AL; 1870 in Lake City, Columbia Co., FL.
"Frank's" eldest son was William Bartlett. He also had 12 other surviving children, including my grandmother.
Given all the circumstantial evidence, I can't help but think we're tied into this Brown family somehow.
