I will start with Ezekiel BABCOCK, b 1716, 8th child of John BABCOCK and Mary (or Lydia?) CRANDALL. -Everybody agrees.
Next he married Eunice BILLINGS in 1740 and had five children: -Elihu, 1741 -Mary, 1744 -David, 1745 -Martha 1745 (or is it 1735?) -Robert, 1753
(The middle three in the improbable elapsed time of 7 1/2 months -but that's OT for this note!). (Note: Martha perhaps b. 1735, not 1745 -see http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/j/a/m/Norman-V-James/BOOK-0001/0006-0006.html)
Well, my source says, no, he married Eunice CLARK and had only one child, Joeseph. Not a big problem, I must have a bum source. But I do note that Joe was born after most of the BILLINGS's gal's babies, so maybe this is a second marriage?? Or ??
Anyway, this one child Joseph, b 19 dec 1748 at Stonington RI, married Sarah MILLARD, then had: -Ezekiel, 9 Sep 1780 -Eunice, 2 Apr 1782 -Catherine -Mary -Sarah -Joseph, 30 Nov 1790 -Susanah, 1 May 1793 -Jesse, 1 Sep 1795 -Elihu, b 12 Apr 1798 None except two of these people can be found in GenCircles.
The second Joeseph, born 1790, is my gg grandfather, and he does appear, in Gandalf and in Unique Babcock Histories, but without any sign of parents in either. Eunice also.
Now this intrigues me. All these Babcocks listed in hunerts of databases, and no sign of the Eunice (Clark) Babcock, the first Joseph and his wife Sarah, and all of thier children except two.
Maybe my source is (was) an ingenious and lucky researcher, and has found this neat bridge between Ezekiel b 1716, and the orphaned Babcocks in Gandolf. Maybe he made it all up. It's hard to see how that extra wife and her child slipped in there without anyone noticing.
Can anyone help on this? I've been poking around also at Genealogy.com (and places referenced there) and found nothing about a Joseph b 1748 (or 1790 either, for that matter). Assuming my source is wrong leaves me with a big hole in the tree.
My source information: In my Mother's notes there is this: "This section of the Babcock family history is taken from a partially completed genealogy compiled by Arthur W. Babcock, dated February 1938. Arthur lived at that time at 3330 4th Ave, San Diego, CA, but has since died."
And this (after Arthur cites the 'Genealogical and Historical Sketch of the Babcock Family' by Media Research Bureau, 1110 F St Washington DC): "Records handed down to me [Arthur] give genealogy from Ezekiel BABCOCK born 22 January 1716 at Westerly, RI who married Eunice CLARK. Ezekiel died 1 April 1754. Eunice died 20 February 1774." End of sources...
