I trace our family roots to a "Shy" Benjamin Allen (1735-1823). He lived most of his life in Baie Verte New Brunswick. Although it appears definite that he fought on the British side as a NCO during the French and Indian wars (I have seen NB land petitions where he claims this) it seems much more difficult to ascertain which regiment he fought with. I have found a Benjamin Allen who was a corporal in Capt John Fraser's Company of the Fraser Highlanders when it was disbanded in 1763 and this Ben Allen accepted the offer to remain in Canada and be given a land grant. (see Clan Fraser of Canada Web Site) Also I found a Benjamin Allen, a discharged shoulder, who arrived in Boston from Louisbourg in November 1763. (Whitmore's Book Port Arrivals and Immigrants to Boston) Online source claim he was from New England or Scotland or both. Does anybody no the sources of these claims.
Also I have read on this sight that Carol Dobson has seen info to suggest that he was on the Rebel side during the outbreak of the American Revolution and that he was a tenant farmer with John Allan (no relation) who was one of the rebel leaders. I wonder what her source is. I have read in a book (The Seige of Fort Cumberland) that there was a group of rebel Acadian tenant farmers and included is a Benajmin Allain. I wonder if this is who she is refering to. If so I have
