My mother was born in or around Spring Lake, NJ, in 1923. Her name was Joy Ann Allen. Her mother's name was Pearl Allen. Pearl Allen was not her married name as it appears my mother was born out of wedlock. (I was never told that, but I've put two and two together and I'm pretty sure about it.)Pearl was only 16 or 17 when my mother was born which means she was born in 1906 or 1907. She had three sisters. I only remember the names of two, Lillian & Elizabeth. I don't know Pearl's father's name, but I know he was an Allen because he was always referred to as Grampa Allen. I'm pretty sure Grampa Allen married a German girl whose last name was Dirstein (not sure of the spelling).
I think he may have originally been from the New Hope area of Pennsylvania. I know that my mother had some cousins from that area. One had an old house on the canal and another was a rather well known architect. I remember my mother telling me how he had inherited an old log cabin in the area that he had renovated and added on to.
I know this isn't much to go on, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
